Elul and the Mikvah: A Month for Reflection and Return

ree

Elul, the final month of the Hebrew calendar, is a time for soul-searching, preparation, and return. As the High Holidays approach, we are invited to engage in deep reflection, take stock of the past year, and begin the process of teshuva

(spiritual return and renewal).

Throughout Elul, we hear the blast of the shofar each morning, calling us to wake up spiritually and take notice of how we are living. It is a time for introspection, realignment, and preparing our hearts for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

One powerful spiritual tool during this time is the mikvah. Immersion in mayim chayim (living waters) symbolizes cleansing, transformation, and renewal. Many choose to visit the mikvah during Elul as a way to mark a physical and spiritual transition from one state of being to another, moving toward spiritual clarity and intention. The mikvah can serve as a personal ritual of hachanah (preparation), providing a moment of stillness amid the spiritual work, and affirming one’s readiness to reset with an open heart.

We invite you to visit MACoM this Elul to immerse in the mikvah as you prepare for the year ahead.
